Why Choose CYPB

Scottish Bagpiping, Drumming, & Highland Dancing

Whether you need entertainment or a culture & music education for your child (or yourself if you’re under 19), the Colorado Youth Pipe Band will exceed your expectations.
Musical and Cultural Education.
Formed in 1989, the Colorado Youth Pipe Band is the only active pipe band oriented toward teaching young people, in primary and secondary school to play the Scottish Highland Bagpipes, Scottish Pipe Band Drumming (Snare, Tenor or Bass), Scottish Drum Majoring, and Highland Dancing.

From No Knowledge To Actually Playing.
Depending on the individual student’s desire and drive (how much they practice and how effectively they practice at home), a new piper/drummer/dancer will progress through the foundation; scales, exercises, tunes, or steps in as little as six to twelve months.
Music reading is taught, along with memorization techniques since all music is eventually memorized. The pipe band has pipes/drums available for student use (deposit required).
Highland dancers can expect to have basic technique established and be learning the Highland Fling in the first six months.

New Classes Start Every Quarter.
Drop by to check things out at any time. We meet on Mondays in Central Denver. Classes start each quarter (in January, April, July and October). Tuition is $65 per month. Students will be able to purchase a practice chanter ($70) or drum pad & sticks ($30) on the first night of class. All drumming students start with beginning snare technique and later branch out to a specific drum style. Dancers (who can start as early as age six) can start by using inexpensive ballet slippers; Highland dance shoes (ghillies) will be individually ordered later (cost: around $40-$50). Music/Instructional Materials are included in the tuition cost (except in special cases). Classes will meet for one hour. In certain cases, performers may have two classes in an evening.

Entertainment Of The Highest Caliber.
The band is available for performances of any size, from soloists to a mini-band with or without dancers, to a full blown Pipe Band Concert featuring a range of Highland dances that will keep you entertained, we have the right performance for your needs.
